Same Sex Attraction

Same Sex-Attraction is being attracted to someone of the same sex. Society harshly lables it as being “gay” or “homosexual.”

The Church made a statement on mormonsandgays.org:  “The experience of same-sex attraction is a complex reality for many people. The attraction itself is not a sin, but acting on it is. Even though individuals do not choose to have such attractions, they do choose how to respond to them. With love and understanding, the Church reaches out to all God’s children, including our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.”

People do not choose to be gay.  We are all tempted with feelings we should not act upon.  Some are tempted with pornography, others are tempted with alcohol or drugs.  Some people are tempted with infidelity.  We all have struggles to overcome.  Same-sex attraction is a weakness some have that should not be acted upon—just like any of the other sins people are tempted with.

Today there are many efforts to deconstruct and redefine marriage and family relations.

The Prophet has given us The Family: A Proclamation to the World. It addresses many specific issues responsible for the confusion, ambiguity, and instability of modern families. It clearly states positions on some controversial issues regarding family relations, family structure, and family composition.

5 Points From the Proclamation that Pertain to Same Sex Marriage
1.) Marriage is between a man and a woman and is ordained of God.
2.) Gender is an essential characteristic of individual pre-mortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.
3.) Children are entitles to the birth within the bonds of matrimony.
4.) Children are entitled to be raised by a father and a mother.
5.) The disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.
